Ever since I was a small child and went aboard my first Navy ship (USS Helena) with the Cub Scouts, I fell in love with those huge beautiful pieces of engineering. I later learned that not only are they just a chunks of metal welded/riveted together, but they are floating cities. Eventually, the ship takes on a personality of her own as defined by the crew that sails her. When her time comes at the end of her career, and the crew leaves, you can actually see the ship begin to die, as if it were a living thing. Soon when the cutting torches are done - there is nothing but a memory and some photographs left of her service to her country.

"They that go down to the sea in ships"
It takes a special breed of men and women to spend days, weeks or month at sea without the  comforts of home and not seeing or being with your family who wait anxiously for your return. They serve their country and spend their life at sea in the defense of their homelands - to give their own lives if necessary, so the citizens of their countries may live in peace.
"To fly as free as a bird above the earth"
Flying high above the ground in search of adventure or adversaries. To claim the sky in the name of, or the defence of their country. To put your life and skill on the line to go up against one who may be better than you, while still aware of those on the ground or at sea that wish destroy you so you are no longer able to bring them harm. They are called Aviators and Pilots.
